Pilots aren’t exactly spoilt for choice when it comes to aviation timers, often having to use kitchen timers that aren’t designed with pilots in mind. Thankfully, the ASA Flight Timer 2 bucks the trend and is the only timer designed by pilots for pilots. It features everything pilots have longed for from a timer for safety and efficiency.
Taking 2x AAA batteries, and measuring 3.5″ x 3″ x 1″, the compact timer has a LCD display that is nice and big, making it easy to read at just a glance. The fact that it is also complete with a backlight will make many pilots flying at night happy too.
Other features include a multi-function clock (AM/PM, 24 hour, UTC/Zulu options), several mounting options, a fuel timer, a push and rotate dial for ease of use, and the ability to store up to 12 different approach times. An electronic notepad is even built-in that comes in handy when you want to annotate radio frequencies and squawk codes, which many pilots will no doubt appreciate.
Alarms can be set both audibly and visually. The visual alarm is particularly useful in the loud environment of a cockpit and while wearing a headset where the audible alarm can easily be missed. The way in which the timer blinks is one of the main things that really sets it apart from other timers not designed with pilots in mind.
The ASA Flight Timer 2 is useful and inexpensive enough to recommend to any pilot out there thinking there has to a better way than using a run of the mill kitchen timer.
In addition to enabling pilots to store up to 12 different approach times, the unit boasts both audible and visual alarm modes; a fuel timer; a stopwatch with 1/10th and 1/100th second digits; a push & rotate dial for quick & easy setting.
